widen your mind
Dear Creative Soul,
When you were a baby, your mind was wide open.
As you grew up, your mind became, for the lack of a better word, narrower.
You developed beliefs, notions about who you are and what you can and absolutely cannot do.
Your mind has stored a lot of negative ideas about yourself. One of the areas in your life most affected by this negativity is creativity.
We have all had teachers that made us think we couldn't write or paint or make art. We have all experienced times where someone we loved didn't like something we've made.
This was especially hard when the thing you showed was something you were so very proud of.
Don't you think it is time to widen your creative mind again? To set yourself free from all that blocks it?
You have the perfect ally in this process: your inner child.
As your mind keeps shouting all those negative ideas at you every time you sit down to create, she speaks too.
Hers is a soft voice, very gently she keeps whispering beyond the shouting:”Stop believing that stupidity. You are so creative, old me! Let's make something fun together!”
This beautiful voice is the source of your creativity, the energy behind your wild typing fingers on the keyboard and the paint splashed fingers. The source of the idea that just flashed in your mind and doesn't let you go until you create it.
There is a powerful realisation in this journey deep into creativity: all the mind can perceive is that someone else is better, has more gifts, is more talented, gets more readers on their blog.
Your inner child is wide open and she doesn't care about those thoughts. All she wants to do is create and play and make the world better and shinier in the process.
Allow yourself to create. Allow yourself to be who you are. Whisper to your mind, “you have stored enough suffering. It is time to heal and let me be me.”
Then grab your pen, your pencils, your dancing shoes, your fabrics, your wool, and create with a big smile on your face.
Create on!
Sylvia
