Blog Question Challenge: Technology Edition

I was tagged by my friend Alexandra the WryWriter to answer this challenge! Love the questions, can't wait to dive in.

When did you first get interested in technology?

As a young girl. My father was always tinkering, showed me (even if I was mightily distractible) how radio's worked, and how to solder. He repaired my record player once, and it felt like magic.

Years later, I learned to program on a C64, and that led to me working in IT when personal computing was just starting (ie with an IBM run by two 5 1/4 floppy disks), and I learned how to take apart computers and put them back together again. I then learned how to maintain servers, and worked in large server rooms, which were fantastic.

I loved it so much when new tech was brought in and I was the first to dive in.

What’s Your Favourite Piece Of Technology All-Time?

How can I even choose? I've used so many things, and have loved using all of them. I do have a deep love for personal computers, though. I have taken apart many of them, and loved to tinker with them, putting in new cards etc).

What’s Your Favourite Piece Of Technology Right Now?

Looking around me, I have several. My iPhone, of course, although it's also a bit too much of a distraction at times. I also love the MacBook I'm typing on just now. It's just perfect, although... maybe not entirely. My 11 year old (now failing) MacBook had a keyboard that was so smooth (no doubt from me typing on it all day, every day, this new one needs more hammering!). And last but not least, my Kobo e-reader.

Name One New Cool Piece Of Technology We’ll Have In 25 Years!

I think that technology will finally go for sustainability because the earth is fast running out of resources. This will probably mean phones, laptops and such will get modular. I bet by that time they've also invented implants to not only control devices but also to do health tracking. Maybe in combination with a medical tricorder as in StarTrek, that would really provide healthcare workers with valuable data.

Final thoughts

Thanks Alex for tagging me, this was so fun to write about and think back on.
