Chateau de Biron

I donāt even know when and how I fell in love with medieval castles. It could be the tv-show about a knight I saw as a kid, and the castle where it was filmed was a real castle, relatively near me.
It could also be that I was a bookish girl and I read a lot of books, fiction and non-fiction, on medieval history.
Over the years I visited some castles, but in 2011 came the trip I dreamed of for years.
Dordogne.
Medieval castle overload.
And the coincidence was that the campsite we were at, was close to a fantastic castle, Chateau de Biron.
I had a very sore neck thanks to the cold breeze at night seeping through the tent walls (and I was in a fair bit of pain from the awful beds in the tent) but all that was forgotten the moment we entered the castle.
Thereās a picture of me, standing at the entrance of the castle, my camera around my neck and a big, joyful smile on my face.
The woman in that picture doesnāt care about pain or hardship. Sheās going to see a castle and sheās going to enjoy every second of it.
I could probably still guide you through it now, 14 years later, as most of that one visit is still etched in my brain.
