Do Nothing
Dear Creative Soul,
I’m going to give you some advice in the next line that may sound like a contradiction.
Sometimes, the best way to get yourself to create is doing nothing at all.
It's the best gift you can give yourself when you feel uninspired. It is, in fact, magical.
When you do absolutely nothing, you open your mind up for inspiration. In boredom your mind will give up on tossing all sorts of meaningless thoughts to you.
Inspiration will drip through, and you just sit and wait for the ideas to take root in your mind, while you just sit in the windowsill and stare out into the world.
So many ideas for creative adventures have come from doing nothing, for me. I wrote whole novels based on a random idea that popped up while I was staring out of the window, or knitting, for instance.
Nothing has a second gift as well, when you expect nothing, but vow to just live in the moment, everything that happens on a day will be a surprise.
So tomorrow, when you wake up, ask yourself, “What am I going to do today?”
Then reply, “ Oh, nothing!”
And then, before you know it, you are working on something unexpected.
How cool is that?
Create on,
Sylvia
