How to read more

At the start of the year I set myself a goal to read 100 books this year, and I’m now so far behind, that I thought I’d write something to get me reading again.

So, I decided to write a list of things I can do to be a better reader.
  1. Make a list of books you really want to read. As an extra challenge: Share this list on your blog or on social media. Having a winter TBR made me rush to finish reading my planned books in March. I bet the same will happen with my spring TBR in June.
  2. Have a designated reading spot. Create a place where you have the books you want to read at the ready. Make it somewhere comfy where you know you want to hang out.
  3. Read reviews of books in your favourite genres, or watch BookTube video’s for inspiration on what to read. A little side note, you will see a LOT of the same books, but you will find someone easily who loves the same books as you. Read what they recommend.
  4. Have multiple books on the go. This is a natural habit of mine (especially with my Kobo) and I intend to keep doing that. The only downside is that you start more books than you finish sometimes.
  5. Explore new interests. To get excited about a new topic is always an invitation to read for me. And what is better than browsing a bookstore to get yourself started?
  6. Set timers for social media. And the news. And anything else you use to procrastinate with. Use all that time this frees up for reading.
  7. Have reading playlists. I just have to put on a certain playlist on YouTube to automagically grab a book.
  8. Make reading a habit at certain moments of the day. Have lunch? Read. Done with work? Read. In bath? Read. (the latter could be only me 😃)
  9. Keep a book log, either online or in a notebook. I log what I want to read, what books I want to buy and I log what I’ve been reading, and what I think of the book.
  10. Re-read absolute favourites. I love this one especially, just because reading those brings me back to the days I was such a ferocious reader.
And now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go. I have a book to read!
