My reading year so far
Gavin reads it all, one of my favourite YouTubers, posted a video using a list called the Mid-year book freakout tag, and I thought I’d snag the list, because the questions were fun. I updated the list a bit and post my responses here.
So far, I’ve read 40 books, not too far behind on my goal of 100 books this year.
1. How has your reading year gone so far?
Bad, good and everything in between. I had a HARD time focusing on reading after my major surgery in March, but now I’m back in the swing of things.
2. What is the best book you've read so far in 2025?
I have given several books five stars, but Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary still drifts in my mind, even months after reading it, so I pick this one!
3. What is the best book you've re-read so far in 2025?
I haven’t re-read many books so far this year, but the one with the most stars is Clare Pooley - The People on Platform 5 (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐︎)
4. What is the best sequel you've read so far in 2025?
Becky Chambers - A Prayer for the Crown-Shy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Such a gorgeous book!
5. What is a new release you haven't read yet but want to?
The sequel to the Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett.
6. What is your most anticipated book for the second half of the year?
I’m so looking forward to reading Sangu Mandanna’s A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping! Comes out next month.
7. What is the worst book you've read so far in 2025?
The story collector by Evie Woods (⭐️⭐️) This book made me want to break things in frustration. It got two stars for one character. The rest was just BS.
8. What is your biggest disappointment of the year so far?
Somewhere beyond the sea by TJ Klune. It made me doubt if I ever loved his books. Gods, that book frustrated me to no end.
9. What is the biggest surprise of the year so far?
Maiga Doocy’s Sorcery and Small Magics. I so loved this book, and I totally didn’t expect I would.
10. Who is your favourite new author (new to you or debut)?
Robert Jackson Bennett. He’s written a lot, but the tainted cup was my first introduction to his writing, and it bowled me over.
11. What book has made you cry so far this year?
Tin Box by Kim Fielding. Gods I bawled over that book.
12. What is the most beautiful book you've bought this year?
The cover of Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell is so so beautiful. Can’t wait to dive in to that book!

13. What are the books you need to read by the end of the year?
My TBR is so fluid, I can’t even decide on what books I want to read this summer 😊
