As I've written about before (over here and here for instance) I have low energy levels and that has kept me from cleaning the house the way I would like.
Today, I added a new practice that is
- is a way to clean the house that doesn't cost me a lot of energy
- makes me feel so meditative
If you've read the title you know what it is: sweeping.
We have one of those broom things that comes with a scoop with a long handle that you can click on it.
Until now I've only used it for small spills and debris of my whittling, but today I've been sweeping the whole second floor with it in under ten minutes.
I didn't know how calming sweeping would be. I'm tidying up as I go, don't take ages doing it either. After I finished sweeping, I tossed everything I swept up (lots of cat hair!) and put the broom and scoop away.
And you may think: why not use the vacuum cleaner?
a. it takes much more energy to put the vacuum cleaner out and then plug it in in each room.
and
b. even with the space age dust filter, it triggers my asthma, mostl because of the scent in the blown out air I guess?
and
c. no noise! There's just the broom sweeping the floor and me walking around with it. I don't sweep like a maniac so I don't trigger my asthma, and it's like meditation.
When I was a child, my grandmother loved to sweep the kitchen, she had, I think, a vacuum cleaner, and one of those rolling sweeper things, but she always went around with her broom.
She said she loved it.
I now know why.
