When was the last time you played?
Dear Creative Soul,
I was playing together some graphics for my blog when I wondered: when is the last time I've actually played like this?
When was the last time I'd just spent an hour or so making things that made me smile? The sad thing is that I couldn't really tell. I couldn't remember what the last time I held my sketchbook in my hand or when I worked in my art journals or when I added pieces to a puzzle I'm working on.
At times like these, I need to remember something I know is true, because I live it every day: play gives energy.
I wrote this post because I was inspired by playing with the graphics. I could only write these posts because I played.
You see, I was dead tired before I created the graphics, my creative energy was depleted because I was working on a project that is fun, but also hard.
And yet, after all that depletion, I still sat down to play, and I still sat down to write this letter afterwards, and I'm smiling while I do it, feeling energetic despite the hour.
Isn't that just wonderful?
So play, creative soul, find something that you can do just for the fun of it, and see how it inspires you to create something exciting.
