I’m not in control

 So next week I have to go to the hospital for blood tests and my first post major cancer surgery checkup. 

   

 This morning I woke up so nervous about this that I have to remind myself of some stoic wisdom.  

 Specifically, this quote from Epictetus: 

   

Some things are in our control and others not. Things in our control are opinion, pursuit, desire, aversion, and, in a word, whatever are our own actions. Things not in our control are body, property, reputation, command, and, in one word, whatever are not our actions.

   

I’m not in control of anything regarding my tests next week. Nothing is in my power to influence the results. 

I’m not in control and therefore I can just sit here, take a couple of deep breaths, meditate on Memento Mori and just keep creating. 

That’s the only possible choice.
